Popular community field recordist Frank Bry of the Web shop The Recordist has just released a new gun sound library: Suppressed Weapons (200 sounds, 2,500+ clips, 576 megabytes $150 on sale for $95).
A year in the making, the Suppressed Weapons sound fx collection offers over 2,500 clips of suppressed gunshots. Of course, no two suppressed gunshots sound precisely the same, so Bry recorded a broad selection of takes at close, medium distant, and far perspectives, including:
- SWR H.E.M.S. II Cal .45 ACP
- Gemtech Blackside 40 .40 Caliber
- Gemtech MK9K Cal. 9mm
- SWR Typhoon .223 Caliber
- Gemtech Sandstorm 7.62 NATO
- Delta P Design BREVIS 7.62mm Compact
- SRT Arms Cheyenne XXL .22 Caliber
- Johns Guns Integrated .22 Caliber
The sounds are provided in three flavours: raw, processed, and designed versions. The suppressors contributed unique character to the gunshot recordings. The shots highlight metal textures or “gun mech” sounds, as you can hear in the Vimeo video below:
Bry also created two other teaser trailers which help you get a feel for the collection and the recording process (video one, video two):
Bry plans to record a second set of gunshots from recently-released suppressors at the end of this year. This update will be included as a free add-on to buyers of the existing set.
If you’d like to read more, The Recordist also blogged a bit about the library earlier.
The collection retails for $150, but is currently $95, a savings of $55. Learn more about the Suppressed Gunshots sound fx collection, and browse other collections by The Recordist.
