|Autumn Rain||A pristine collection of 50 24-Bit 96kHz rainfall sound effects from the forests and fields of North Idaho. Recorded primarily in the fall season of 2011 around my ranch and high up in the mountains. Other rain tracks were recorded early and late winter when the rainy season it peaking. A large portion of this library was recorded with the Sennheiser MKH-8040ST at XY-90 and XY-120 to capture the stunning detail of rain drops on leaves, wood and concrete. The rain storms that sweep through North Idaho during the change of seasons are abundant and can swell and fade, mist like fog or just pour down on you like someone dumped a bucket from the skies.I stood for hours under towering Cottonwood trees while a soft rain fell and then dripped off the brittle leaves. There are torrential downpours recorded in the middle of the night along with blustery storms that pounded the trees as their leaves were turning. Also included are rain from roof drip edges into small puddles and rain recorded under a canvas cover.I traveled to my secret pond and recorded the miniature rain drops hitting the surface of the water. Also included are numerous tracks recorded under or near vegetation like bushes, cattails and small maple trees.Variations on some categories are plentiful. Just moving a few dozen feet from one location brought a new sound to the same forest. There are close and distant rain drops to give the sound designer many options when cutting rain scenes. As many sound recordists already know, recording rain can be a challenge. From keeping your gear dry to not catching a cold while getting soaked recording, it presents it’s own problems very different from recording in the sunshine. I was lucky enough to not suffer any of those situations severely. I did get quite soaked at times and the gear survived. I only wish I had taken more photos. All is good. Enjoy!||The Recordist||50||2.5||√||Weather||$75.00||96||24||Unknown||–||WAV||Soundminer v4|

Recorded during the fall season of 2012 on my property and in the North Idaho mountains. This library was recorded with the Sennheiser MKH-8040ST at XY-90 and at times XY-120 (wide) and captures in great detail the sound of air blowing through trees, leaves, tall grass, wire and fences.||The Recordist||30||2.2||√||Weather||$75.00||96||24||Unknown||30||WAV||Soundminer v4|

|Farm and Forest Wind||This unique ambience collection contains 22 elegant 24-Bit 96kHz wind sounds from some intense windstorms in the forest and a corn field here in North Idaho.Recorded over 3 distinct seasons it has blowing wind through tall fir trees with leaves and without. My ranch has a wide open field surrounded by thick forests on 3 sides. When I was recording I could hear the wind from quite a distance storming towards me. With slight howling and long sweeping gusts this wind demonstrates the open and dynamic forest landscape here in the North Western part of the US.The wind through dry corn stalks are from my feeble attempt at a corn garden on my ranch. Recorded during an high wind event on a hot summer afternoon. The corn had long since died off but was still standing tall. I was making a last walk through of the garden before the colder temperatures set in and noticed the wonderful noises coming from the corn section. I was not sure how long the wind was going to last so I ran and got my PCM-D1 and sat low near the stalks and started recording. I was very pleased with the results and I switched to the Sanken CSS-5 and continued recording for a different sound.||The Recordist||22||0.975||√||Weather||$35.00||96||24||Unknown||–||WAV||Soundminer v4|
|Frigid Winter Wind||This special collection includes very cold wind sounds from three seperate snow storms in North Idaho. Recorded at 24Bit 96kHz in 2008 and 2010, these blizzards from the great white north swept in and completely froze everything in its path. The blizzard in 2008 roared for one day and blew snow and debris in all directions. The temperature had been at -5 degrees for a few days before so there were icy snow crystals and leaves whipping around. The location I recorded at was right near my electrical service wires and every so often they made a nice whistling sound. The blizzard in late 2010 was producing 70 MPH Gusts with susdtained wind at 35MPH for two whole days. I was able to set the CSS-5 right outside my front door in the middle of the night and record for only 10 minutes at a time Because the temperature was -10 degrees with wind chills up to -25 degrees. The other windstorm in late 2010 blew in and was more like the steady 25 MPH wind you would experience on a daily basis in the desert South West. I was able to set the CSS-5 near my garden fence which is like large chicken wire. It was very cold and the gear was freezing so I was not able to get as much as I wanted. I hope you enjoy my North Idaho winter winds.||The Recordist||36||2||√||Weather||$50.00||96||24||Unknown||–||WAV||Soundminer v4|
|Gale Force Wind||I first began recording this new library back in January 2012 when a Northerly gale blew part of the roof off my studio neighbour. Since then I’ve recorded winds in wires and aerials, in a boat yard, on hilltops and inside World War II bunkers, as well as setting up some spooky draft situations inside houses.||HISSandaROAR||?||7.1||Weather||$49.00||96||24||Unknown||92||Unknown||–|

Save $5 and enjoy three 4-minute 5.1 surround designed thunderstorms when you buy this mega-collection: Nature’s Fury: Rain, Wind, Thunder!
Nature’s Fury has been sound designer David Fienup’s passion for over 5 years. Over the past 5+ years, David has been obsessively recording thunderstorms, rain, and wind wherever he goes. These sounds come from Ann Arbor, MI; Boyne City, MI; Detroit, MI; Chesterfield, MO; Virginia Beach, VA; and several other locations – often just pulling over on the side of the road somewhere… Fienup’s tenacity with carrying around a stereo recording device, whether it be his Sony PCM D50, D100, or Sound Devices 702T, has paid off in huge ways. He has risked his life and his gear to capture some of Nature’s most Furious moments! In fact, his PCM D50 was knocked over so many times recording these sounds he had to buy a D100 to complete the library. Fienup has always been awestruck by the very power of thunderstorms saying,
“Thunderstorms beat at your chest, your heart. You can’t beat back a thunderstorm. The sheer power of this natural phenomenon reminds us that we are a part of Nature, but we do not control Her. Thunderstorms are so rich with sound: from the wind whipping through trees, to the rush of water pelting the ground, to the crack of lightning and the deep rumble of thunder; it’s one of the most complex natural sounds on our planet. Easily my favorite soundscape.”
Variety is very key to this library, as it is for all Soundopolis SFX collections. The various locations and microphones used have contributed to a library that should cover you for whatever sound you’re looking for. Whether you need cold, sharp rain, or fat, splatty rain – you will find it here. Whether you need light distant rumbling thunder, sharp, jolting thunder, or massive, explosive thunder that sets off car alarms – you will find it here.

This free sample collection contains all the sound effects you may need in order to evoke the atmosphere of a rainy day in a large city. You can hear the cars passing by on some of the recordings, tires splashing through puddles and people walking around in a hurry. The rest of the audio content was recorded in quieter parts of the city, far from the busy downtown. I’ve also recorded the beautiful sound of raindrops falling on an umbrella, it almost sounds like vinyl noise.
There are also around twenty recordings of distant thunder rumble. These can be mixed with clean recordings of rain, if you need background noise for a movie or an audio project. The coolest part of this sound library though are the samples of seven thunders which struck very close, even too close if you ask me. Those are the most valuable samples in the pack, because recording a storm from such close distance is indeed a very rare opportunity.
The funny thing is that I got a bit scared at one moment, so I turned off the recorder and took shelter inside a building. This is something I regret from today’s perspective. There would have been around five or six more fantastic thunder strike samples if I kept recording that time. Still, at that moment I was pretty sure that staying outside would be too dangerous, so I played it safe.
Play the last sample in the “Heavy Thunder” folder at a loud volume and you’ll understand why I chickened out. It was almost as if the storm was trying to tell me that it ain’t playing around and that it doesn’t really fancy ending up in a free sample pack such as this one.
The majority of the samples in the “Rain” and “Distant Thunder” folders have been edited to loop perfectly. You can easily connect multiple copies of the same audio file in an audio track inside your DAW in order to create infinite rain loops. The provided loops can be used at any tempo and of course there is no need to use time-stretching because the loops do not contain rhythmic content.
The “Heavy Thunder” samples are provided as one-shots. They have long tails, so it’s very easy to layer them on top of a rain loop and get natural sounding results. In the audio example embedded in the sidebar, a single rain sample was looped five times, with four different heavy thunder samples layered on top.
